Genital Herpes

Herpes is a virus that is spread from skin to skin contact, particularly during unprotected sexual contact.

Symptoms

A first attack of Herpes occurs between 2-10 days after contact with an infected person and may last for weeks. Symptoms may include:itching or tingling feeling at the site of infection

• blisters or pimple like sores which later form scabs
• flu like symptoms

Treatment

Genital Herpes can be managed effectively with medication.

Prevention

The best way to prevent infection is to avoid direct skin to skin contact with an area infected by Herpes
Using a condom and/or dental dam will reduce the risk of infection

Regular sexual health checks

Always thoroughly check your clients

Note:

Genital Herpes are highly contagious and can be spread even when there are no symptoms. The virus stays with you forever and herpes episodes may recur, particularly when you are stressed, tired or not looking after yourself.
